I have a classroom of 4th grade learners, who crave learning. Whenever they have the opportunity to read, they do it! Even at lunch, my students will choose to bring their books with them so that they may be able to read even more. I teach in a very a low socioeconomic area, where more then 96% of the students are on free and reduced lunch. The large majority of my learners are ELL (English Language Learners) where at home, the primary language spoken is either Spanish or Creole. My 4th graders are smart, they just need the opportunity to learn and grow. They are like little sponges, taking in little bits of knowledge whenever they can. I love seeing my students' faces light up when they learn something new, to listen to them share with excitement something they learned , and to watch when they realize they understand something for the first time.
