I believe that a fun, creative, imaginative, exploratory and experimental school arts program is important for all kids and is essential to a 21st century education. Traditional textile arts: sewing, weaving, knitting and natural dyeing are my personal passions, and I bring that into the classroom as much as I can. When teachers share their personal interests with their students, they pick up on and share that enthusiasm! I have found that my love of fabric, yarn and textile art is infectious to my classes! Even students who normally have difficulties sitting still or listening have found their center and focus working with yarn and fabric. I also have a background in stop-motion animation, and I love to bring that to my classroom as well. The tactile nature of stop motion appeals to kids and it is a great way to incorporate the use of technology and storytelling into the art classroom.
