My classroom is a central location for our senior cohort of students and has been for the last 2 years. This year I will take on a new role as a college and career coordinator as well as my duty in our school’s ELA department. All students, freshmen to seniors will be welcome and able to utilize the space and resources of our classroom. We will encourage students to spend time in the room to ask questions about next steps after high school graduation, we will host Parent’s Nights here and use the class during our literature and senior seminar classes on a daily basis. The books I’ve chosen have been picked based on student need and interest, questions that parents have asked and resources that alumnae have recognized as important. The resources this project will provide will help our students to see themselves as successful scholars with the confidence, knowledge and resources to be accepted into a college or university while also dealing with really grown-up choices like future finances and careers that can set their future in a positive direction. The project will also provide furniture for our classroom with a college environment conferencing area for both students and parents.
