My class is made up of military students on a California Military base. They are the children of the U.S.Navy and U.S.Marines. Many students have parents currently deployed in Iraq or Afghanistan. All of my students at one time or another have had to deal with missing a parent who is deployed. Parents miss key moments of their child's school experience. Making their own student videos is one wonderful way these students can document their lives, personalize their memories and share their worlds with their parents no matter how far away they may be. My class has a wide range of ethnicity's including American Indian, Filipino, African America, Japanese, Chinese, and Latino backgrounds. Their socio-economic levels range from near poverty on Federal School Lunch programs to children of Military Officers with much higher economic means. Academically the range is great as well. Some are behind in their skills due to transient nature of the military lifestyle.
