There isn't a day that goes by that someone in my class asks to play music. Because of this, I've designed lessons that center music and audio. The students love working with audio, but I am limited in what I can do with audio with my current classroom. When attempting to personalize lessons, many students cannot bring in their own headphones due to financial restrictions. Having headphones with built in microphones would allow for creative approaches to analyzing and creating audio samples. The use of audio splitters would allow me to pair students together with each group listening to different audio samples. A personalized learning approach could be achieved if we had more materials. I have found that many of my students engage with learning at a deeper level when activities incorporate audio learning. Many students have asked for more speaking and listening activities, but all my students would benefit from having these resources. My students would benefit from access to audio clips of class materials. On top of financial insecurities, some of my students have immigrated from spanish-speaking countries. While I can translate text and interpret directions for them, they often miss out on class readings because English is not their first language. Having access to headphones would help give my Spanish speaking students a quality education through accessibility to audiobooks and speaking activities that could be recorded through the included microphone.
