When I started teaching in my school district, I started the Chamber Ensemble Program with a single brass ensemble. This year we have a flute choir, clarinet ensemble, at least two saxophone ensembles, a brass choir, and a mallet ensemble. It has been so exciting to watch them grow! The small ensembles are largely student-led. Last year, most of the groups collectively made the decision to rehearse twice per week. I am always available and go in and out of their rehearsals for coaching, but I try to speak more directly with the student leaders on how they can be more effective with their time. The kids in the music department in this district are the best. They work hard, they care about their music, and they encourage each other. I'm so lucky to work with them; these guys are my favorite musicians!
