I will be a first-year teacher in August. My school is a Title One school, and we are provided with Google Chromebooks. However, the amount of time that it takes for each student to retrieve their Chromebooks and get logged on, takes away from instructional time. The Apple iPad devices are lighter and easier to carry. These devices are equipped to scan QR codes to assist students in getting logged on to sites faster. In addition, Apple supports applications that Google may not. For example, SeeSaw and iBrainstorm are great educational tools that store digital portfolios of student work, but are not supported by Google Chrome. While it is far too expensive to request a class set, my students can share a small set between small group rotations for ELA and Math to access these applications that I can use as an educator.
