Our sixth grade students participate in a project based learning program at a suburban school. Our team is made up of the four content areas ( math, science, ELA, and social studies). It also includes an art and special ed teacher. Our students are 6th graders at a suburban public school in South Carolina in a large urban/suburban school district. There are nearly 100 students on our Project Based Learning team that we are piloting for our school. These students range in abilities, backgrounds, and motivation, but the project based learning framework helps engage them in our content and community. Our student population is made up predominantly of under-privileged students. 51% are on free or reduced lunch. Our students are predominately African American students, with a small proportion of students who speak English as a second language or qualify for special education services.
