My school is a New York City Middle School Our students live in the Bedford Stuyvesant area in Brooklyn, New York. The student body consists of Asian: 2%, Black: 62%, Hispanic: 25%, and White: 3%. The vast majority of our students are faced with familial challenges that impede their academic, social, and emotional progress. They are mainly from low income, single family homes which have negatively impacted their self-esteem. As a result, our faculty and staff work hard and sacrifice to educate our students in order to improve their quality of life. Gail Devers said "Every accomplishment starts with the decision to try." Some of our students have a desire to become chefs and I am determined on giving them the opportunity to try.
