Students will be introduced to their first moveable robot called a Bristle Bot. Students will make their Bristle Bot by using a vibrating motor, cell phone battery and the head of a toothbrush. The students will mount the battery and motor onto the head of the toothbrush and learn how to close the circuit by connecting the wires on both items. This first do-it-yourself project will be combined with art as each student will dip the brushes of the toothbrush in paint and place it in a box that contains a sheet of plain paper. The Bristle Bot will then move about the box freely creating a work of art that the girls can display in the room. This project will be an introduction to electricity as the girls will be taught about open and closed circuits.
