Computer use is a daily activity in our classroom. My first graders use the computers to help reinforce lessons, as well as research material needed for dioramas, research papers, word processing, creating and organizing files, practicing keyboarding skills, and digital storytelling. As a part of our centers, the students use Imagine Learning, Starfall, Accelerated Reader, as well as many other websites that offer additional help to struggling students, and continue to raise the depth of knowledge for higher functioning students. My students really love working on their computer-led assignments and are more focused and engaged when given the opportunity to utilize technology; and I plan to push their learning even further by teaching them how to create graphic organizers using mind mapping programs, creating video presentations, and publishing writing online. Recently, I showed the students how to computer code and they were ecstatic! Unfortunately, my classroom is only equipped with five old, worn-out, refurbished computers. With seventeen first-graders, you can imagine how much of a headache it is to allow everyone the opportunity to utilize the computers within a certain time-frame. The reason I am requesting assistance purchasing Chromebooks is because of its functionality. Chromebooks have access to hundreds of websites and technological tools that offer students the opportunities to explore. Your funding helps to promote literacy, create mathematical whiz kids, and technological ROCKSTARS who will one day rule the world! I hope you find it in your hearts to help us. No donation is too big or small. My kids and I thank you immensely from the bottom of our hearts!
