My students come from low income households. They get free breakfast and lunch everyday, some receive free dental cleanings and eye exams/glasses at the school, and some qualify to take home groceries for the weekend. They need something to look forward to.
Here's where YOU come in. I have started a pilot band at my school for this semester. I have already seen an improvement in student's behavior, grades, and happiness. In one case, I had a student go from getting C's and D's to getting 2 A's and a B on his last 3 tests. He was so proud of himself he came into my room and told me in person. My kids need YOUR help.
After these students learn their instrument this year. They will go on to middle school where they have the chance to take band as an elective. No other elementary schools in Las Vegas are doing band at their schools. This gives my students a chance to have a leg up on students that may have a leg up on them in other areas. They will now become the leader and mentor of others in their band and make better friends than if they did not participate in the arts.
The future is so uncertain for these students. Giving them an education in music gives them a light to look towards and endless goals and triumphs throughout the rest of their academic and social careers. Thank you so much for your time!
