My students live in one of the greatest cities in the world without the ability to fully enjoy all it has to offer. At our school, it is important that students become responsible global citizens. Part of that is becoming aware of the events that are affecting their world and participating in community service. Current events awareness is vital to becoming an informed and effective global citizen. A subscription to Weekly Reader will open their eyes to issues facing our local, national and global communities. Additionally, this knowledge will inspire their efforts in community service. I am also asking for a supply of pencils so that each child can participate in the learning process without the frustration of not possessing the supplies needed to do so. I cannot tell you how many times students come to me saying, "I couldn't do my homework because I didn't have a pencil."
