Going to the National Science Teaching Associations conference will help the new science teachers and the previous science teacher (myself) at my school to grow and collaborate our ideas to help build a science team from scratch. The conference will provide us with innovative resources and opportunities to better our newly constructed science department. Our goals are to keep our lessons innovative and engaging for students of the current generation and each generation coming through the school system. Attending the NSTA conference will help the science team provide the rigorous and challenging courses that our students need. Our state can only provide us with so many opportunities for professional development for science, and unfortunately, new and innovative resources are rare to find within Oklahoma. Therefore, traveling to the National Science Teaching Association's annual conference will help us find those new and innovative resources. The last reason this opportunity would be extremely beneficial is because I plan on bringing these new resources back to Oklahoma to share with other educators. I have connections with and am part of OSTA (Oklahoma Science Teacher Association) and plan on sharing the new resources with leaders of OSTA so that they can then share with other members, if not offer an opportunity for myself to teach other teachers at the OSTA conference during the summer.
