Usually when my students are learning to read, they have to read aloud. We are working on being aware of the individual sounds, or phonemes, in a word. Once they are aware of these phonemes, they begin to recognize that when these sounds are put together, they equal a word. Reading is the foundation on which all other learning is built. Even math today requires our students to read. The leveled readers will allow for instruction on their beginning reading level. WhisperPhones will allow students to practice their oral reading without disturbing the student sitting close to them. It also will allow me to monitor and model word pronunciation during guided reading activities. The WhisperPhone Select also provides a setting that creates teams of two students for paired reading.
