I am one of a pair of music teachers at Avalon Elementary. Throughout the year, I sing, dance, play, create music and produce theater with 800 students from Kindergarten to 5th grade. I absolutely have the best job in the school! (Shh... Don't tell anyone! ) My students come in all shapes, sizes, ethnicities, abilities, living situations, and moods. Some of them light up when we explore the ways we can move our body to music, using scarves, ribbons, or just themselves. Others prefer drum circles, or creating a simple orchestration of a folk song using xylophones, metallophones, glockenspiels and smaller percussion instruments. Some find that they are most excited when they get to explore musical theater and use drama and music to tell a story. Over 150 love music and drama so much, they enroll in our after-school programs. They ALL help to make me smile, every day.
