"Being a second grader is hard work!" is what I've heard my students say. Academic expectations are extremely high nowadays. This requires a great deal of concentration for my classroom full of seven-year olds. Sitting on regular chairs all day is challenging for them. Students have asked to sit on the floor or stand. Hokki stools are a fantastic alternative for students who need to wiggle and move while trying to concentrate on daily work. Having at least a few stools available would be a fantastic alternative. Developing students' minds and creativity is essential for healthy kids. Second Graders need to be able to play. When we have to stay inside for play time, students need to be active and motivated. In my class, students love using the limited LEGO materials I have. There are only enough for a few students. Having additional LEGO materials, and introducing Magna-Tiles, will ensure that my students are actively playing in the classroom. I truly believe that this type of active play is what my students need, and in fact is what most of them ask to be able to do when we stay indoors for recess. Hands on activities are greatly needed for these kids to keep their hands and minds active.
