Overcoming Learning Challenges Near and Far
Funded Aug 15, 2024Thank you so very much! These books will help supplement our new curriculum and encourage students to read independently and build their research skills. These materials will help our 6 third grade classrooms with over 150 students! Students need (and deserve) quality, diverse literature that has the ability to build their content knowledge needed to become better readers.”

Funded Aug 9, 2022Thank you so much for your support! I always say that it is most important to start students off on the right foot. The materials that you provided helped to do just that! I was able to make sure all students had the necessary items while also helping them to use the materials to organize our learning.
We used our reading and writing notebooks every day. Students were annotating the text, writing (and drawing) about various vocabulary that was mentioned throughout our learning, and then were writing to respond in separate notebooks.
I gave each table a pencil bag along with 10 presharpened pencils in order to start their week. Students were then able to sharpen any broken pencils throughout the week and make sure that they had pencils on demand whenever needed. This helped to lessen the amount of wasted time and helped us stay organized.
The fidget bands helped many of my students keep themselves focused , without disturbing anyone near them.
Thank you so much to everyone for your kindness!!”

Funded Jun 21, 2022Having access to quality, yet diverse and inclusive literature is very important. I have an extensive library in my classroom that I build upon every year. Children deserve to see people who look like them in a variety of media. People who represent positive affirmations and expel positive situations.
Receiving the many books I did really built on my library, which needed to be more representative of the students in my classroom! I used many of these stories as read alouds, but also encouraged students to read independently every morning. The books received were definitely favorites for most. I even had a Muslim student who asked to take home Leila's lunchbox to share it with her family to show how her culture was being represented. This was super important and super impactful.”

Funded Oct 30, 2022Thank you so for much for supporting this project! Scholastic News is one of most engaging ways I've been able to teach literacy and social studies in the past. I love that the text is on level, but that Scholastic always finds topics that would be on most interest to students. I know they will be excited when I tell them we have this program again!”

Hands on Math
Funded Aug 19, 2021Thank you so much for your generosity! This past year was crazy as most people know. We weren't able to do a ton of group work or have students work in small groups this year. However, I snuck in a few small groups when it came time for math. Students LOVED the multiplication and division regrouping kits whenever they were pulled out. I would teach a student or two how to use it, and then they were able to teach others. This definitely helped more with their conceptual understanding of both concepts. Students also really liked playing and creating with the volume and geometry games. It was great to see students who previously didn't like the concept, but were suddenly excited to try different concepts.
Thank you donors for helping this to happen!”

Funded Jul 19, 2022Thank you to everyone who has helped fund this project! We all know that students deserve and need safe and clean environments in order to worry more about their academics. I am very grateful to start the school year with many of the well needed racing supplies to make sure we start off on a fresh start and have materials to keep it that way!”

Funded Aug 19, 2021Thank you so much for donating to this project!
My district does not have a current social studies curriculum, and this has always been a subject pushed to the side. Having the Scholastic News in my classroom, I was able to teach students about various current events and easily tied into many of our literacy standards. For example, we had a literacy unit about explorers that students really seemed to be interested in. I was able to pull a Scholastic News article (and video) that was all about explorers. This tie in helped students build on their understanding of explorers and then they quickly became interested in doing some of their own research. I would love to be able to continue using Scholastic News with future classes!”

Funded Aug 13, 2021Thank you so much for your support! I never realized how much we would use the wireless doorbell in my classroom! We use it for partner transition, group transition, and even occasionally. It has been mentioned and loved by administration also. As soon as students here it, they immediately give their attention and/or return to their seats ready to move on!
We use the mailbox several times a week. This has become a quick way for me to get important papers to students without distracting them. I already give students numbers in the beginning of the year, and the mailbox just made this process even easier. One student stores his extra drum sticks in his mailbox. Others keep their attendance papers to be filled out daily in their box. And I use it to disseminate important papers received from the school .
Lastly, we have used the organizing wall pieces in order to hold some additional important pieces needed for small groups or the day's assignments.
Thank you for helping to add organization to our classroom!!”
