My classroom is practically a United Nations in Westchester I have students from all over the world. We have five different language groups from very diverse cultures. However, they work together beautifully and love learning from each other. My students come from families who are extremely hardworking but still struggling to get by. A large majority of my students qualify to receive free lunch because of their financial hardships. Because of this, they are especially vulnerable and in need of the most basic school supplies. My students face an ever more daunting task because not only are they challenged with learning the content areas of math, science and ELA, but they are doing so in a new language. ELLs enter my classroom at varying levels (and at various times in the year). Each student's learning level is specific to them which is why they need differentiated readings as well as writing assignments.
