UIL STEM activities are designed to motivate students as they acquire higher levels of knowledge, to challenge students to confront issues of importance, and to provide students with the opportunity to demonstrate mastery of specific skills. Students are challenged to think critically and creatively, exhibiting much more than knowledge and comprehension. For the past year, I have been the Director of our School's UIL program. I have been persistent in seeking resources for students who may not otherwise have this opportunity. Joining UIL has empowered our students to now consider areas for college and career that they had not previously considered. Currently, I have several students who do not have the resources to explore some of the UIL fields further; by providing laptops and calculators for students to check out, they will have the opportunity to be successful in UIL STEM activities.
