My project supports the growth of emotional self-regulation, self-esteem, socialization, and learning in Kindergarten through fourth grade elementary school students. The bean bag will go in a special ‘calming space’ where children can go to destress, relax, reflect. Also available in this space will be various stress/anger reduction toys such as fidget toys, stress balls, Play-doh, and modeling compound to give a physical outlet for stress. The various cooperative and skills-building board games teach socialization and emotional self-regulation in group settings. ‘Peaceable Kingdom Mole Rats in Space Cooperative Strategy Game for Big Kids’ and ‘Peaceable Kingdom Race to the Treasure Cooperative Board Game’ are games that develop socialization skills. ‘Mad Dragon: An Anger Control Card Game and Stop’, ‘Relax & Think: A Game to Help Impulsive Children Think Before They Act’ are games that teach children how to regulate their emotions. Toys such as the ‘Veatree 206 Piece Magnetic Building Blocks with Magnetic Bricks and Sticks’ and the craft supplies will be used for children to play alone or with others/in groups to help them refocus themselves as well as promote cooperation, sharing, and calming strategies.
