My Kindergarten students are Native American. We live in a rural area and the economy is very depressed here. Their parents/guardians do not have money to spend on extras such as books. Many of them are living with grandparents who live on a very fixed income. My students are very enthusiastic about learning how to read, but need to have a good role model that will help them excel.
