Students come into my office every day for a safe and welcoming space to calm down, take a break, and learn to self-regulate before returning to class. I often hold small lunch groups focusing on social emotional learning as well as small groups for peer mediation. Currently I only have two wiggle stools and conference chairs in my office that are not designed for small bodies with a lot of energy, my students often fidget and climb around on the uncomfortable seating. Flexible seating options in my office will help students settle their bodies and be able to focus and be present to learn coping, social, and academic skills that are crucial for success in the classroom. The items that I have selected will help my students by giving them various seating options to help them focus. The wobble stools are great for my high-energy students who need a safe and effective outlet. The chair pads and bands will allow for additional options to get their wiggles out and find comfort. I have noticed amazing differences in my students when they are given a choice in where they sit, they are noticeably more engaged in our lessons and activities. I hope that these items will increase the sense of comfort and safety I strive to create in my office!
