I teach all subjects in an all day kindergarten in a high-need school. I have 24 students. 85% of the students in my room are learning English as a second language. 87% of students at our school qualify for free or reduced-price lunch, meaning these families are living at or below the poverty line. Many of my students do not participate in extracurricular activities, so formal dance is something they may never have been exposed to or have the chance to experience outside of school. All kindergarten students love to dance and move. We have an end of the year celebration/performance. All of the kindergarten students perform on the stage for their families. In addition, they all perform for grades pre-school to sixth grade. So, our end of the year performance is a big deal for everyone!
