The materials I have selected will greatly enhance my instruction for writing. Students will read the journal entries of high school students, and then they will create their own journal filled with their thoughts and ideas. The book is an excellent example of how powerful it can be for students to write these ideas (journal) and then express their ideas aloud. The Freedom Writers Diary lets students read the thoughts of high school students like them. It delves in to some challenging issues and in some parts, it is raw and unfiltered. This will really engage my students. My goal is for my students to write a journal that is both personal and powerful. This unit will be a great support for those students that need some inspiration and guidance in order to express themselves.
