Our school is located in a rural area of Long Island. We are surrounded by water and farms. Our children learn early on all there is to know about fishing and boating. Everyone is very in touch with nature. We have a beautiful school garden which my first graders love to visit. I know that the best way to reach the children I teach is through hands-on activities that allow them to engage with their whole body and minds. I try to always keep this in the back of my mind as I plan my units and lessons.
