My name is Mr. S and I am the new Head Football Coach at Chicago Tech Academy in the University Village neighborhood of Chicago. As an independent charter school, we lack the resources necessary to have a solid football program. The school was able to purchase a few things through a small grant last year but it isn't enough. 96% of our students qualify for free or reduced lunch and 10% of our student population is classified as homeless. We don’t always have full parental support since most of our parents need to work two jobs to provide for their families. Although, the football program is only in its second year of existence, it has already made a positive impact on the school’s culture including, increased school spirit, a sense of pride, discipline among players, and teamwork. These are the skills that will allow our students to one day become productive and educated college graduates contributing to society.
These are a few of reasons why our high school students deserve a chance to equal the playing field both in the classroom and on the field. Our students live in environments that can lack hope and positive role models. If awarded this donation of girdles and footballs it will definitely make a huge impact. The girdles will help protect our students from injuries. If granted the resources needed for our student athletes, more students will come out to play making an even bigger impact in their lives. It's a proven fact that student athletes perform better academically than students who are not involved in extracurricular activities. As educators and coaches it is our responsibility to help students build a solid foundation. I believe this football program can be a key factor in doing this. Thank you in advance for your time!
