My students come from predominantly immigrant families that struggle with poverty and lack of resources. They are friendly children who have learned that they must go to school and college in order to succeed but the resources and role models are very limited due to a working poor environment in which they must have a dual role of child and adult in order to advocate for their families and themselves. They will work on books this year that give examples of resiliency in order for them to strive to resist temptations of gangs, drugs, and peer pressures. We have a large number of struggling students and it is our goal to give them life strategies and academic support in order for them to be successful in post secondary options.
