We are a community middle school in which the majority of the students are of Hispanic and African American descent. We are located in New York City. My students are the best! they love music and have big dreams. Many of them struggle academically but they are staring to grow a passion for learning. In my class there are 3 girls and 9 boys. They have made big improvement since September. We have worked on respect and continue to improve our classroom culture. We have a no judgment policy, where we could all be our selves and everyone respects each persons' individuality. The school is very excited about this academic year because they are putting together a school musical. Many of our kids struggle with social skills. This is an incredible opportunity for our children to get involved and build on positive relationships with peers and staff. September was challenging for me as a new teacher, but despite the challenges I am happy to walk into my class everyday and teach.
