Flexible seating allows students a degree of choice and control over where they learn. Studies have shown that it also benefits students' comfort, community, communication and sensory skills. We are hoping that by allowing our students the opportunity to sit where they are most comfortable they will be more engaged, relaxed, and enthusiastic about their learning. We have quite a few students who suffer from ADHD and ADD and will benefit greatly from the rocker chairs and wobble cushions. Given the options to move around the room, students will have the choice to move away from interactions and others that cause friction or stress. They can make better choices so that their triggers are minimal. My co-teacher and I have chosen portable writing tables and floor cushions so students can move around the room and still be able to complete their work. Stacking stools to use at our back table and around the room, bounce balls to use at their desks, back tables and computer desk to help with focusing on their learning.
