The first line of defense for our rights and freedoms is a free press. My journalism students are learning the values and commitments of responsible journalism with a specialty in broadcast journalism. This is a new direction for our campus’ journalism program, and my students are excited to lay the foundations of this new beginning. These select items will help my students start strong as they take what is learned within the four walls the classroom out into their world- the campus and community. This equipment will ensure the media produced by my students are of quality and a product those students involved and the campus can be proud of. Having the appropriate microphones will enhance the student’s interview process and allow for clear vocal audio in video production as well as flexibility. When staging interviews, lighting is always top concern. The lighting tools I have requested will ensure students can light their subjects without limitation or a diminish in quality. All of these tools are essential to learning and application of the skills my broadcast students will acquire. We are 21st century ready. Storytelling through the eyes of my students will not only teach the individuals to use their voice but in turn it will give a louder voice to the student body as a whole. In a quest to learn responsible journalism my, classes have brainstormed great ideas for our broadcast productions. Those ideas include creative segments such man on the street style interviews and student news feature segments that highlight our amazing student organizations and student accomplishments. This will be an exciting year with endless possibilities for the future of our broadcast journalism program.
