Through the studying of music with an instrument such as an ukulele, and playing in ensembles, students learn important life skills that help them grow into creative leaders. All research points to better cognitive development the longer students study music, and this is born out through better test scores in science and math. Students also improve their physical motor skills as well as learn organization, dedication, and teamwork, while developing improved collaborative understanding of the world around them through ensemble performance. Our school is seeking to outfit each of our third and fourth graders with an ukulele that may be checked out and taken home. This is needed to participate in virtual classes during distance learning and will provide opportunities to practice and achieve better musical outcomes. We are seeking to add 20 soprano ukuleles and protective cases to this end.
