We are a Title I school with a very diverse student population in grades 7-8 with no majority ethnicity and all socio-economic backgrounds. I teach 8th CTE Wood Workshop, 7th/8th CTE STEAM Explorations, and voluntarily run an after-school STEM program: Science Olympiad. My students want to learn and are curious yet very active, social, and talkative. Living on a rural island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean limits the opportunities for most of my students. As a result, I strive to bring their education alive and purposeful while using their own experiences as the basis for their exploration and learning. My goal is to develop scientifically literate citizens who can critically think, work collaboratively, prepare for non-traditional careers and opportunities as they develop into our next productive generation.
