Wow! If you only new the benefits of all these flexible seating items these children will get from having them! It's an amazing new approach to learning. I know everyone may not be aware of the importance of flexible seating, but even as adults, we like to have a comfortable working environment. We all have a place that we like to go to when we need to get things done. The big rugs & pillows can be used for Daily 5 and Independent Practice. Also, they are used for silent/buddy reading, centers, research time, and more. These items are known to engage them in longer reading times and they help build their love and stamina for reading and classwork. Having wiggle chairs and space to move around for group work and Guided Reading will allow them to flex their seating as they see fit for their comfort level so that they are engaged. Having the wiggle chairs, big pillows, flex chairs, and comfortable seating is known to provide the students with the opportunity to move around their classroom as needed and it creates a safe and comfortable learning environment. I have personally witnessed a change in their commitment to learning and in their behavior when having flexible seating options. Being comfortable somehow allows the student to stay vested in the task and their behavior is equally positive. They are willing to work with others, share ideas, and create a set up that allows them to be successful learners. Big picture, these items, like the flex comfy chair allow the students to feel comfortable and secure about their learning environment, they grasp more of what they are learning about, which leads to achieving at a higher level.
