This upcoming school year I've decided to try something different to reach all learners, a flexible seating arrangement. Flexible seating arrangement is where students are provided with alternative seating such as wobbly chairs or lap desks to work on the floor! I know what your thinking, "Why can't students just sit in regular chairs?" Flexible seating promotes collaboration, communication, creativity, and critical thinking by helping students manage their physical bodies at the same time! We all know how hard it can be to sit all day! Some students work well standing, sitting on the floor, swaying back and forth/ side to side, etc. Students will be able to sit on a cushion on the floor while using a lap desk to write a story using their vivid imagination. Or maybe a student will choose to sit on a wobbly chair so that they can safely move while working on a subtraction story problem. When seating is flexible, students can discover their own learning style, collaborate with classmates, and explore information at their own pace and in their own style. We are looking forward to implementing this into our classroom this year through your kind donations!
