I am requesting flexible seating for my classroom. Today’s chairs do not offer enough flexibility to optimize learning. Sitting in any chair for more than 8 minutes is likely to have negative effects on the physical and mental awareness of the students. Teachers need to engage students in a greater variety of postures, including walking, lying down, moving, learning against a wall or desk, perching, or even squatting. The brain learns best and retains most when it is actively involved in physical activity. We will use this seating with other seating options that I have purchased through the year to let students move around to learn.
