I currently teach a group of third grade students in New York City. Most of my students come from lower socioeconomic locations across the city and more than 85% of the students in my school qualify for free lunch. They are hard working scholars who want to achieve academically. Being a new teacher, I came into an almost bare classroom. The school and I have been able to provide the minimum, but the bare minimum is not enough. My students are creative and driven but have a lack of resources to reach their full potential. I want my students to have equal opportunities to learn and this means having access to the best learning materials and resources possible.
