Students have many options on how to take notes in class. They can take notes using an online word processing application like Google Docs, by writing them by hand on paper, by taking pictures of the information using their school-issued device, or even by filling in a guided notes sheet provided by the teacher. All of these methods are effective at getting the notes to the students, but one method is better for learning than all the others. It has been proven that hand-written notes are better for learning, understanding, and memorization than using a digital alternative. I want my students to take notes by hand to help with their retention of the information as well as their understanding. My students would use these Rocketbooks to take notes by hand during class for this reason. However, it is a struggle for some of my students to keep up with their notes whether they take notes in a notebook, on a guided notes sheet I provide, or in any digital format. The paper copies get lost at the bottom of the backpack or left in the classroom and the digital copies never seem to make it to the correct digital folder. The Rocketbooks would allow students to digitize and organize their handwritten notes by simply taking a picture using their Chromebook when they are done taking notes for the day. Another great thing about the Rocketbook is that it is reusable. After the student takes a picture of the notes, they use a damp cloth to clear the page and then it's ready for the next class. Ideally, this project will affect my classes now and my classes in the future. We can't wait to start using these notebooks! Thank you for giving to my classroom.
