I teach a diverse, first grade classroom of students in Washington, D.C. Our school’s racial make-up is 39% Black, 6% Hispanic, 44% White and 9% of students who have multiples races. Other demographical information include 23% of our community being economically disadvantaged, 14% of our community in Special Education, and 3% of our community as English Language Learners. My school is both an arts-integrated and health-focused school. In every part of the instructional day, we incorporate movement, visual arts, and music into our core subject areas. We also have a range of teacher-led enrichment programs. In all, our school community is committed to the growth of our students in all areas!
