My 2nd-grade students represent a very culturally diverse population. They are hard-working kids, many of whom come from low-income to working-class families. The majority of our students receive free/reduced lunch and breakfast, and weekend backpack "snack packs". Despite the challenges that they face, they come to school eager and ready to learn. Their parents are vested in their children's education and our students are dedicated to the hard work and effort that is needed to succeed now and in the future. As a STEAM Academy, science, technology, engineering, the arts, and mathematics are at the core of everything that we do. My students are 21st-century learners and need accessible classroom technology for school programs used daily. My classroom is a place where I work hard to keep a calm, clean and inviting environment with access to the resources my students need to succeed.
