I have chosen the jumbo beanbag and comfy pillows to help allow students more flexibility and options in their seating and a classroom that caters to their individual learning styles and preferences. The floor seats that has been chosen from Lakeshore Learning will create an environment that allows for alternative seating, open communication and collaboration, and abilities to self-soothe within our special education classrooms. Students will be able to explore an educational setting that works for them. Students with special needs should be taken into consideration when setting up a classroom. Students with sensory disorders can be some of the most challenging, and misunderstood students a teacher can have in a classroom (Hyche & Maertz, 2014). Allowing for a classroom set-up that makes the students feel comfortable while making the environment interesting and conducive to learning is one key to a teachers success. Chairs can be too hard for students to sit on. Possible solutions to the uncomfortable chair would be cushions, plastic discs filled with air, or yoga or therapy balls, and possibly the Boundary Chair by AKJ Education. The use of the therapy balls in a classroom has been known to improve attention and allow for student to focus the entire class (Hyche & Maertz, 2014). Behavior problems tend to happen in classroom for two basic reasons. Hyche and Maertz (2014) explain that they students are seeking something or avoiding something. If the students are engaged and focused, they are not avoiding; hence not a behavior problem and they are learning.
