When I first started teaching middle school math seven years ago, my students were using
TI-34 calculators that had been given to us by a neighboring school in our district. These are the same calculators we are using today.
Donations to purchase new calculators will allow my middle school students to all have one. Many of the wires in our calculators are literally hanging out of them and causing them not to work properly. We actually need sixty-five calculators, but this will be very beneficial in replacing the ones in the worst shape.
Texas Instruments doesn't make the exact calculator we are currently using. They have an updated version. I have searched and purchased many single calculators over the years from individuals on Ebay as calculators would completely wear out.
On a daily basis, I only use the same 30 calculators that are in my chart so we don't misplace or lose any of the rest. However, this past year, all students in our building were required to test at the same time on the same day. We were frantically combing the internet trying to find "matching" calculators. My school allowed me to purchase 14 calculators from individuals on ebay so all of my students would have the exact same calculator.
