Modeling good reading is so important in a reader's development. Shared reading exciting texts for students to explore and then having them partner read it again for a closer read helps the students gain confidence and strength as a reader. Books chosen like Mice and Beans, Those Shoes and My name is Yoon are multi-cultural, engaging and can integrate into various subjects. They will not only engage the reader , the students will see themselves in literature or learn about another culture. It is my hope that these books will seed a love for shared reading in the intermediate grades with the teachers, and give our students good reading models in order to grow as readers . The students need to practice their reading in various forms and shared reading will do this.
