There are many things that create a successful classroom, one of these is seating. My students always move around the room on our bean bags to help them have a more comfortable and "natural" learning environment. We call our classroom our home. We currently have a huge bean bag that has been sewed up many times and will have to be thrown out at the end of this year. This different seating allows the kids to be more comfortable when they move around the room and lets their minds focus more on their work and less on a hard chair.
Science is a very hands-on subject. We are lucky enough to borrow materials for some experiments and lessons, but others we are in need of purchasing. Magnets are a huge area of study that we use, not only in learning attracting electricity but also with the pull of gravity on earth. Potato clocks are something my students have asked me to do every year. Kids learn so much better getting to be hands-on and these items would allow that.
The novels we are in need of because kids learn better using interesting reading materials. I currently use many of the I Survived novels in class to teach reading skills, and my kids have been requesting this novel.
