Providing students choice in where to sit has extraordinary benefits for students! Not only does it improve classroom participation and higher academic performance, but it also improves student posture and builds students' core strength. With the funding from this project, I am looking to purchase flexible seating options, including: inflatable chairs, yoga balls, wobble floor/seat cushions, lap desks, chairs, and floor mats. These items will allow students to make choices where they sit and work that are best for their bodies and minds. By providing students with choice in where they sit, we are giving them buy in to their own education. When students have choice, they are more likely to participate, to engage, and thus learn the core academic standards we are trying to teach. Currently in my classroom I have seen an uptick in student participation when given a choice to of where to sit. Now all we need is more options to choose from! The various products I have selected for this project will allow students to feel comfortable, at home, and relaxed in the classroom.
