Having a set of gel plates, ink and brayers will allow student to experience art beyond drawing and painting. Students often enter an art class thinking that if they cannot draw, they cannot create. But experiencing a new creative process with expand their horizons and open up new ways in the creative process for them. Exposing my students to as many art styles, genres, and processes is important as it allows them to see things in a much broader perspective. While printmaking was often seen as secondary to painting, drawing, or sculpture, printmaking has now become an essential part of the art world, drawing in a much bigger audience. I would like to give that special and eye opening experience to my students.
