Although we live in an area that has several ponds, lakes and rivers, many of my students have never had the opportunity to experience the thrill of reeling in a fish. This project will provide them with a skill they can use throughout their lives for fitness, nutrition, and enjoyment of the outdoors. To add to the impact of this project, one of our teachers is a semi-professional lady angler and she has agreed to kick our unit off as a physical example of how fishing has changed her life. Students will learn the skill of casting with accuracy as they try to catch the Backyard Bass fish. Each fish they reel in will be marked with a fitness exercise for their team to complete. Fishing is a brand-new addition to our P.E. curriculum; therefore, we currently have no equipment available. Your help with funding my project will touch the lives of hundreds of students by bringing excitement, new skills, and an appreciation for the outdoors.
