My second graders are bright and inquisitive. They have many questions and are used to being able to get answers! We are part of a large elementary school K-5. Our school is very proud of its diversity. We have a wide variety of students from many cultural and socio-economic backgrounds. Sometimes learning science and social studies topics can be difficult. Great nonfiction books can help build background knowledge, content vocabulary, or both. Reading to learn is a skill that second graders are increasingly able to do. Most kids pick nonfiction books to read/ look at for their free reading. Unfortunately, many times the books are too hard for the students to independently read. I have chosen a list of books that match with our content and reading levels, both remedial, at, and above grade level to enable my students to read to learn. I look forward to the learning that will take place! Thanks for your help!
