I inherited a single silicone breast and one set of testicles which contain simulated cancer tumors from a health class which closed. The models are old, but still usable. We discuss how to properly and most effectively conduct a self exam to detect possible lumps. Then the models come out! My students do a good job of passing them around the class and attempting to find the lumps, some of which are very difficult to find. With only a single set it is nearly impossible to allow each student time to effectively learn proper technique. We do a good job, but additional and newer models would really help. All joking aside, early self detection is something which can and has saved lives.
