This project will put irreplaceable materials into my fifth graders hands! Many of our hands-on materials were damaged or thrown away after damage to our school from Hurricane Florence. This will help supplement needs I have in mathematics and science. The materials requested in this grant will enhance my learning centers and will be used throughout the year as we go through our entire curriculum. Math in a Flash Discovery Cans will encourage hands-on, student led games and activities that my students will be able to use throughout the school year. Magna Tiles will help my students to differentiate geometric shapes and allow them to build and create 3D figures. Fraction Number line write and wipe boards will allow my students to represent their fractions in a number line format on a reusable surface. The Matter Book Library will give my students rich, nonfiction text to use to help better understand science topics. With these materials, my students will be able to work collaboratively to solve fraction problems, discover information about matter, x-ray a human body, and create geometric shapes. Students learn more effectively when they talk about their learning with their peers. These materials encourage student learning groups and will provide them with rich learning experiences. These materials are giving my students experiences they would not normally have in mathematics and science. Many great experiences will come from these materials. Because they will be able to create fractions, they will better understand how to solve them. Being able to see an actual x-ray displayed in our window will help them better understand bone structure. Small group work will be enriched because they have student led activities ready for them to solve! Thank you for your willingness to give!
